Dangerous Music D-Box Silverface – excellent, monitor controller and summing mixer, with power supply and Hosa 6' snake
Dangerous Music built its reputation on a simple and uncompromising idea: that analog summing done right sounds better than anything you can do inside a computer, and that the monitoring chain deserves the same level of care as everything else in the signal path. The D-Box is the product that brought that philosophy within reach of serious project and mid-level commercial studios — combining eight channels of analog summing, a reference-grade D-to-A converter, a full-featured monitor controller, and two 20-watt-per-channel headphone amplifiers into a single rack space, designed by Chris Muth and built in the USA to audiophile standards throughout.
The summing section is essentially one half of the Dangerous 2-Bus LT — the same active analog summing bus that engineers have been reaching for on serious mix sessions for decades. Run your stems or subgroups out of your interface, through the D-Box's eight analog inputs via D-sub, and back into your DAW, and you get the increased headroom, three-dimensional imaging, and low-end clarity that analog summing provides when it is done without compromise. The monitor controller section handles two sets of stereo speaker outputs with dead-silent switching, two digital inputs (AES/SPDIF and a DAW input) both routed through the same onboard reference D-to-A converter for unified monitoring, a stereo analog input switchable between +4dBu balanced and -10dBV unbalanced, built-in talkback mic, and dual independent headphone outputs — all of it in one clean, logical front panel. The frequency response runs from 1Hz to 100kHz within 0.1dB, THD plus noise is better than 0.003 percent, and the unit handles input levels up to +27dBu without complaint. These are not modest specifications.
The Silverface variant is the less commonly seen finish — the brushed aluminum faceplate gives it a distinctly different look from the standard black panel unit, and it holds up beautifully. This one is in excellent condition, clean throughout with minimal signs of use. All controls, switches, and inputs are fully functional.
