Kentucky KM-200S A-Style Mandolin - Made in Japan - Used
This is a wonderful example of a vintage, Japanese-made Kentucky KM-200S. During the 1970s and 80s, Kentucky mandolins were produced in Japan by highly skilled luthiers, and these early models are widely considered to be superior in tone and construction to many modern entry-level and intermediate instruments. With its classic A-style body and f-holes, this mandolin delivers a crisp, percussive "bark" and excellent projection that is perfect for bluegrass and folk music.
The KM-200S features a solid spruce top and a maple back and sides, a combination that has aged beautifully to produce a sweet, woody resonance. This instrument is in very good shape and is quite structurally sound. It shows minor fret wear consistent with its age, but it has been professionally set up in our shop and is playing beautifully across the entire fingerboard.
The Japanese-made Kentucky models have earned a cult following for their exceptional build quality and traditional voicing. This mandolin is a fantastic choice for a serious student or a seasoned player looking for a high-quality vintage A-style without the high-end price tag. It includes a hardshell case for secure transport and storage.
