Yamaha Revstar Standard RSS20 – Gig Bag – Used Excellent
Yamaha launched the Revstar in 2015 and it arrived fully formed — a genuinely original design in a market crowded with Strat and Les Paul derivatives, inspired by the stripped-down café racer motorcycles of 1960s London and built with a level of engineering intentionality that set it apart from everything else in its price range. The 2022 refresh of the Standard line made a strong guitar even better. The RSS20 starts with a chambered mahogany body with a maple top — the chambering reduces weight while preserving the fundamental warmth and sustain that mahogany is known for, and the maple top adds definition and a slightly brighter edge to the overall voice. The three-piece mahogany neck is set into the body and runs full-width under the neck pickup for maximum contact and resonance, and it carries two strips of carbon graphite alongside the truss rod — a feature that gives the neck exceptional stability across temperature and humidity changes without adding any weight or changing the feel. The rosewood fingerboard has a 12-inch radius that sits in a comfortable modern-vintage middle ground, and the 22 jumbo stainless steel frets are one of the more underrated features on this guitar — they will outlast nickel frets by a significant margin and feel silky and fast under the fingers. The VH5 Alnico V humbuckers are custom-designed by Yamaha and deliver a punchy, articulate voice with genuine vintage character — not the compressed, scooped sound of a generic humbucker, but something more dimensional and responsive. The 5-way switching adds two out-of-phase positions for chime and twang that a standard two-humbucker guitar simply cannot access, and the passive Focus Switch on the tone knob shifts the resonant frequency and adds a passive boost — darker highs, increased mids and lows, and a more aggressive overall character — with no battery required.
This one is in superb shape — no fret wear, only minimal superficial surface scratches, minor scratching on bridge pickup cover, and it presents beautifully in white. Set up and ready to go. Comes with the original Yamaha gig bag.
