Yamaha Revstar RS420 Electric Guitar, Maya Gold - Used
The Revstar series is one of Yamaha's more interesting recent chapters — inspired by the vintage street-racing motorcycle culture of London and Tokyo, these guitars have real personality and genuinely good engineering behind them. The RS420 features a nato body with maple top, set 3-piece mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, tune-o-matic bridge with stop tailpiece, and Yamaha's own VH3 Alnico V humbuckers — custom wound in-house after testing more than 50 prototypes. The proprietary Dry Switch is a passive filter circuit that delivers hum-free single-coil clarity without the noise or output drop of a standard coil split. The Maya Gold finish is a rich, distinctive color that photographs beautifully. At 8 pounds 4 ounces it's a solidly built instrument with good sustain and a comfortable thin neck profile.
This one plays well despite its road miles — it's a player's grade guitar with honest wear to show for it. Fret wear is present throughout the board, the back shows scratching and swirling from regular use, and the pickups show some corrosion. Nothing that stops it from doing its job, and a set of replacement pickups would bring it right back. A solid platform at a player's price.
