2021 PRS Silver Sky – Tungsten – Maple Neck – Includes Access Gig Bag – Used Excellent
The Silver Sky is the result of more than two and a half years of close collaboration between Paul Reed Smith and John Mayer — a guitar built from first principles around Mayer and Smith's favorite elements from 1963 and 1964 vintage instruments, reimagined through PRS's engineering precision into something that is at once deeply familiar and entirely its own. The brief was specific and demanding: eliminate everything that frustrated them about vintage instruments while preserving everything that made those guitars irreplaceable. The result is one of the most thoughtfully designed S-style guitars ever produced at any price point. The alder body delivers the balanced, harmonically rich voice that has made it the standard tonewood for this format. The maple neck and fingerboard is the original 635JM profile — developed by researching vintage instruments and road-tested by Mayer on stage — with the 7.25-inch radius that gives it an authentically vintage feel while the custom fret wire size and PRS execution make it considerably more comfortable to play than a true vintage instrument. Three 635JM single-coil pickups are the tonal heart of the guitar, voiced with Mayer and Smith for warmth and roundness in the high end — never ice-picky or brittle — with the noise-cancelling in-between positions giving the player clean, quiet single-coil tone on stage. The steel tremolo is set flush to the body in the neutral position so it only moves in one direction, increasing body contact and sustain and improving the signal-to-noise ratio of the single-coils in a way that a floating trem cannot match. The inverted PRS headstock keeps consistent string length behind the nut for improved tuning stability, the vintage-style locking tuners hold pitch reliably, the curved molded metal jack plate makes cable changes effortless, and the bone nut is the right detail at the right place. In Tungsten this guitar has a sophisticated, slightly smoky grey finish that photographs beautifully and wears the Silver Sky's clean lines with real elegance.
This one is in superb shape — minimal signs of play, one teeny finish mark, and the light aging of the output jack plate that is entirely typical on these guitars and shown in the photos. Plays great, sounds great, looks great. Comes with the trem bar and PRS Access gig bag.
