The CE has been part of the PRS story since 1988, and it has always occupied a specific and important place in the lineup. Where the Core set-neck models offer the warmth and sustain that comes with a glued joint, the CE takes the same maple top and mahogany back combination and pairs it with a bolt-on maple neck — adding the snap, clarity, and immediate attack that bolt-on construction has contributed to electric guitar tone since the beginning of the music. It is a different instrument than a Custom 24, not a lesser one. Players who know the difference seek the CE out specifically for that quality, and the 2022 version is one of the best iterations PRS has built.
The neck is Pattern Thin with a satin nitro finish that feels broken in from the first time you pick it up, and the 85/15 pickups — designed by Paul Reed Smith personally for clarity and extended response at both ends of the frequency range — deliver all the tonal versatility the PRS name promises. Through the push/pull tone control and 3-way toggle you get six distinct sounds that cover genuine humbucking weight and coil-split clarity without compromise. All the PRS feel and tone, in a guitar that carries its own distinct voice.
