Hondo II Professional Electric Guitar, Black, Japan - Used
The Hondo II Professional series occupies a genuinely interesting place in guitar history — made in Japan at either the Matsumoku or Tokai factory between roughly 1980 and 1983, these were the top of the Hondo line and a significant step above the budget import guitars the brand was otherwise known for. According to Hondo's own history, the Professional series came stock with American-made DiMarzio pickups, and build quality on these MIJ instruments is consistently described as solid and reliable decades later. They're not easy to find in good playing shape, and players who've spent time with them tend to hold onto them.
This one is a double-cutaway body in black with a maple neck and fingerboard, single humbucker, and a control setup of one volume, one tone, a 2-way switch, and a 3-way switch — consistent with the coil-split and phase switching configurations found on these models. At 7 pounds 5 ounces it's a comfortable weight. The previous owner is by all accounts a wonderful human being, so this one comes with genuinely good mojo attached.
Condition is Very Good. Plenty of smaller scratches and dings consistent with a well-loved, well-played instrument — nothing structural, just honest history. No case included.
