Guild Bluesbird – Black – Newark St. Collection – Korea – Gig Bag – Used Very Good
Guild has been building serious electric guitars since 1952, and the Bluesbird has a lineage that runs all the way back to the M-75 Aristocrat of the late 1950s — one of the great early American solidbody designs, built in New York by a company that has always done things its own way. The Newark St. Collection Bluesbird is the Korean-made reissue of that legacy, and it is a genuinely impressive instrument for the money. The chambered mahogany body with carved maple top is a combination that delivers the warmth and sustain of mahogany with the definition and brightness of maple on top — lighter than a comparable solid body, more resonant, and more comfortable to wear for a full set. At 7 pounds 7 ounces this one sits right in the sweet spot. The one-piece mahogany neck has a vintage soft U profile that is comfortable and substantial in the hand, topped with a rosewood fingerboard, mother of pearl block inlays, and cream binding that gives the whole instrument a properly dressy appearance. Where Guild really distinguished this guitar from the competition is in the hardware and electronics choices — USA-made Seymour Duncan pickups (JB SH-4 at the bridge, 59 SH-1 at the neck) are not a concession you typically see at this price point, and the TonePros locking Tune-o-matic bridge locks the saddles and posts in place for improved sustain and tuning stability. The two volume, two tone control layout with three-way toggle gives you the full range of humbucker voicings, and the coil-split options expand that range considerably for players who want single-coil textures from the same instrument. This is a guitar that competes convincingly with instruments that cost significantly more.
This one is in superb shape — minimal signs of play, no significant wear, and it presents beautifully in black. Set up and ready to go.
