Gibson SG Standard '61 6 lbs 7 oz– TV Yellow – Original Hard Case and All Case Candy – Used Excellent
In 1961, with the Les Paul on hiatus, Gibson needed a new flagship solidbody — what emerged was bold, fast, and impossible to ignore. The SG Standard '61 reissue captures that pivotal moment with genuine fidelity, and the TV Yellow custom color finish gives a familiar shape a fresh, vintage-inspired presence that stands out on any stage. The solid mahogany body retains the deeply sculpted body scarfing and dramatic double horns that made the original design so visually distinctive, and the deep body bevels keep the whole instrument remarkably light and comfortable for extended playing sessions. The SlimTaper mahogany neck is fast and effortless under the hand, and the neck-through-the-22nd-fret design with deep cutaway gives genuinely unimpeded access to the entire fretboard — no fighting the body to reach the upper register. The bound rosewood fingerboard with acrylic trapezoid inlays and 12-inch radius is comfortable for first-position chording while staying playable all the way up the neck without fretting out. A pair of '60s Burstbucker humbuckers deliver classic PAF-style tone with a bit more power and top end than the originals — tight low end, rich midrange, and the kind of rowdy high end that defines vintage Gibson voicing. Period-correct details are everywhere: the smaller teardrop pickguard introduced in 1961 rather than the later batwing style, top hat knobs, Vintage Deluxe Keystone tuners, a Graph Tech nut for rock-solid tuning stability, and an old-school nitro gloss finish that ages beautifully. The ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and lightweight aluminum stopbar tailpiece are the same fundamental design Gibson used on the originals, contributing meaningfully to sustain and response.
What really sets this one apart is the weight — notes practically jump off the lightweight mahogany body, and it is genuinely comfortable to play for hours without fatigue. No wear of any kind, plays great, essentially as new. Comes complete with the original hard case and all case candy.
