The Les Paul Modern Figured is Gibson's most comprehensive answer to the question of what a Les Paul should be for a player who wants the instrument's fundamental voice and identity without any of the ergonomic compromises that defined the original design. The foundation is classically Les Paul — mahogany body with carved AAA flame maple top, mahogany neck, set neck joint, 24.75-inch scale — but nearly everything else has been rethought with a modern player in mind. The Ultra-Modern weight relief chambers the mahogany body in a way that preserves sustain and resonance while bringing the weight down meaningfully, and at 8 pounds 3 ounces this is a genuinely comfortable Les Paul to wear for a full set. The SlimTaper neck profile is fast and unobtrusive, the genuine ebony fingerboard with compound 10-16 inch radius gives you a slightly rounder feel near the nut for comfortable chording that flattens progressively toward the upper register for effortless bending, and the Modern Contoured Heel removes the block of mahogany that has always made upper-fret access on a Les Paul more awkward than it needs to be. In Seafoam Green over a AAA figured maple top the guitar is genuinely stunning — the flame catches the light beautifully under that gloss nitrocellulose lacquer and the color is one of the more adventurous and successful departures from Gibson's traditional sunburst palette. Burstbucker Pro at the neck and Burstbucker Pro+ at the bridge deliver the warm, complex, singing Les Paul voice with a clarity and definition that reflects the ebony fingerboard's natural brightness. Four push-pull pots give you coil-tapping for single-coil P-90 style tones, phase switching, and a pure bypass straight to the output jack — a tonal range that few Les Pauls of any era have offered. Grover locking Rotomatic tuners, aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge, Graph Tech nut, and clear top hat knobs complete an instrument that is modern in every meaningful sense while remaining unmistakably a Les Paul.
