The R8 is Gibson Custom Shop's reissue of the 1958 Les Paul Standard, built in Nashville to vintage-correct specs. This 2007 example has a mahogany body and neck under a plain maple top, a chunky '58 C neck profile, an Indian rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays, 22 narrow tall frets and a 24.75" scale length. Burstbucker 1 and 2 pickups, an ABR-1 bridge and Kluson-style tuners round out the vintage-minded hardware, and the Faded Tobacco finish is a thin VOS nitrocellulose. It suits players who want the classic Les Paul look, feel and sound without the price of a true vintage original.

This one is a definite player. It has gorgeous classic looks in the plaintop, and it delivers that iconic classic rock sound. Our shop set it up with low action, and it feels and plays great. The frets show very minimal wear with plenty of life left in them. It's all original. Cosmetically, there are small dings throughout and some minor buckle rash on the back.
