The Fender Select series was introduced as the company's most refined production instrument short of the Custom Shop — a line built with hand-selected tonewoods, premium appointments, and construction details that went considerably beyond what the American Standard could offer. The 2013 Select Stratocaster is a particularly distinctive expression of that philosophy, and the channel-bound rosewood fingerboard is the detail that defines it. Rather than a conventional fingerboard glued to the top of the neck, Fender inlaid the compound-radius rosewood board directly into the maple neck — eliminating the visible seam at the edges and creating a playing surface where both sides feel completely rounded and smooth under the hand, with no sharp transition between neck and board. It is a small detail that makes a meaningful difference in how the neck feels, and it is the kind of innovation that distinguishes a carefully built instrument from a well-assembled one. The alder body with flame maple top is hand-stained in an attractive antique-style burst finish with a gloss lacquer topcoat — lighter and more vintage-leaning than a tobacco burst, with the natural flame of the maple visible through the finish in a way that gives each guitar its own visual character. The Twin-Head humbucker in the bridge position and Select single-coils at the neck and middle give the guitar real tonal range, with five-way switching covering classic Strat chimey positions as well as the full humbucker voice. Hand-rubbed oil finish on the neck, contoured heel for upper-fret access, Bi-Flex truss rod, two-point tremolo with vintage-style bent steel saddles, deluxe staggered locking tuners, and the Select headstock medallion complete an instrument that was built with genuine intentionality at every step. Comes with the original tweed hardshell case with Select badge, original receipt, all case candy, and hang tag.
This one is super fun to play — a springy, lively feel and sound that is immediately addictive, and notably light in the hand. Very minimal fret wear and basic signs of play are the entire condition story. It shreds and feels fantastic.
