Fender MIM Standard Stratocaster 1999 - Used
The Mexican Standard Stratocaster of the late 1990s has aged well — not just literally, which this one has, but in reputation. Players who dismissed these as budget alternatives to the American models have quietly come around over the years, and guitars like this one are why. Twenty-five years of playing, settling, and being used as a real instrument has a way of bringing out what was always there: a comfortable, broken-in feel that a brand new guitar simply cannot replicate, and a Strat voice that sounds exactly like a Strat should.
This one has a few specific qualities worth noting before the cosmetics. The maple neck carries a natural flame — not a figured maple upsell, just the figure that happened to be in this particular piece of wood — and it gives the neck a visual warmth that makes it stand out from a standard MIM in the shop. The rosewood fingerboard has developed the smooth, worn-in feel that comes from years of hands. It is comfortable under the fingers immediately. A natural player from the first note.
The white finish has followed the path that late-90s MIM polyurethane often does: faded gradually to a warm cream, with some spots of discoloration in places where the finish has aged unevenly. This is not damage — it is the guitar showing its age honestly, and on a white Strat it has a charm that an ice-white factory finish simply does not have. There is also minor play wear throughout consistent with a played instrument of this age. Check the photos carefully for the full picture on cosmetic condition. No case included.
