Fender 2019 American Ultra Jazzmaster, Cobra Blue - Used - Excellent
The American Ultra series is Fender's statement that there is still room to improve on the instruments that made the company's reputation — and the Ultra Jazzmaster makes that case convincingly. The offset body has deep belly and forearm contours that make it one of the most ergonomically comfortable electric guitars Fender builds, and the tapered neck heel gives genuinely unobstructed access to the upper register in a way that a standard bolt-on joint never quite manages. The Modern D neck profile with satin urethane back is fast and comfortable from the first chord, and the compound 10" to 14" radius fingerboard transitions from chord-friendly at the nut to solo-friendly at the top end without asking you to adapt.
The Ultra Noiseless Vintage Jazzmaster pickups are the tonal heart of this instrument — Jazzmaster-voiced single coils that deliver the full chimey, bell-like offset character with none of the 60-cycle hum that vintage-wound versions carry. The control layout rewards the player who takes time to explore it. The main circuit runs a 3-way toggle for standard pickup selection, while the rhythm circuit slide switch and the individual volume offsets give you genuinely different tonal textures rather than just volume differences. The S-1 switch on the neck volume control puts both pickups in series for a thick, humbucker-weight combined voice — the gateway to alt rock tones that the Jazzmaster format has been delivering since Dinosaur Jr and Sonic Youth made it their own.
