Eastwood Airline H44 DLX – Copper – Used Good
The Harmony Stratotone H44 is one of the great overlooked instruments in American guitar history — a short-body, single-cutaway solidbody introduced in 1952 that became a favorite of blues and slide players for its lightweight feel, chunky neck, and raw, characterful voice. Richie Valens played one. Tom Waits played one. The originals are increasingly hard to find and harder to play, which is exactly why Eastwood built the H44 DLX — a faithful tribute that retains what made the original so compelling while bringing it up to modern playability standards. The solid ash body is lightweight and comfortable, the set maple neck has the substantial baseball bat profile that defines the H44 feel and contributes meaningfully to tone and sustain, and the rosewood fingerboard with block markers and bound edges gives it a period-correct visual character. Two dual mini-humbuckers evoke and improve upon the original's DeArmond-style single-coil, with three-way switching, master volume, and master tone giving you a workable range of tones from warm and full to snappy and bright. The floating wooden bridge and custom trapeze tailpiece complete the vintage picture. In copper this guitar looks genuinely cool — that warm, slightly metallic orange-brown finish is one of the more distinctive color choices available on any production guitar.
This particular example has a chunk missing from the body in the arm rest area that has been finished over with a smooth gloss — and here is the thing: it actually makes for a genuinely comfortable arm rest, rounding off the edge in a way that might give you pause in the photos but feels fine in practice. The low E string buzzes a bit when played hard. The guitar plays fine for what it is — a fun, characterful, visually arresting instrument with some honest wear. No case or bag included.
