Yamaha SA2200 Semi-Hollow – Violin Sunburst – Includes TSA Hard Case – Used Very Good
Yamaha has been building semi-hollow electric guitars since 1966, and the SA2200 is the current pinnacle of that nearly sixty-year tradition — a made-in-Japan instrument that combines premium materials, meticulous construction, and Yamaha's unique Initial Response Acceleration process into a guitar that plays and sounds like it costs considerably more than it does. The laminated sycamore body with soft maple center block is the foundation — sycamore brings a bright, lively resonance that complements the warmth of the semi-hollow construction beautifully, and the center block keeps feedback under control at stage volumes while preserving the open, airy quality that makes a semi-hollow so much more interesting than a solid body in a clean or lightly driven context. The set mahogany neck has the comfortable, authoritative feel of a well-made jazz guitar, and the ebony fingerboard with double block inlays runs 22 medium jumbo frets at a 13-3/4 inch radius — smooth, fast, and precise. The bone nut is a premium touch at any price point. Yamaha's Alnico V humbuckers are voiced with a warmth and fullness that rewards players who know how to use a volume knob, and the push-pull coil split on both tone controls opens up a range of single-coil textures that doubles the tonal palette considerably. Gotoh hardware throughout — SG30 tuners, GE103B bridge, GE101Z tailpiece — is among the finest production hardware available and contributes meaningfully to sustain and tuning stability. The violin sunburst finish with gold hardware is a combination of genuine elegance — visually this guitar commands attention in any room.
This is a genuinely superb instrument that compares favorably to guitars costing twice as much. Stunning good looks, highest quality build throughout, and incredible playability — just set up through our shop and ready to go. One small ding on the neck and minimal wear otherwise. Presents beautifully.
