The Harmony Rocket is one of the great American student-turned-cult guitars of the late '50s and '60s, and the two-pickup H54 is the classic version. Its thin single-cutaway body with f-holes and a pair of DeArmond gold foil pickups give it a sound all its own: airy, punchy and full of vintage character. Players have rediscovered these for exactly that tone, and this one has it in spades.
This Rocket has been set up in our shop and is playing well. It's in good shape for its age and shows plenty of honest play wear from years of use, with the finish getting a bit chippy in places. Like most Harmonys of this era, the neck has no truss rod; it carries a little more relief than ideal but plays fine at vintage spec with 10s. One repair to note: one side of the headstock had started to crack away and has been glued back on, and it is structurally sound. The original gold foil pickups sound great. A real vintage vibe at a great price. See photos for a close look at everything.
