Hagstrom '67 Viking II, Vintage Sunburst, Hollow Body - Used
The original Hagstrom Viking debuted in 1965 and immediately became the most popular model the Swedish company had ever made — thin hollowbody construction, mini humbuckers, gold hardware, and a 6-in-line headstock that gave it a look entirely its own. Elvis Presley played one. The '67 Viking II reissue brings that instrument back with period-correct styling and a few thoughtful modern updates — the Resinator composite fingerboard that performs like ebony in terms of density and stability, the H-Expander truss rod that is stiffer and lighter than a conventional rod, and the H-52 Alnico 5 mini humbuckers that capture the vintage 60s tone while adding a push/pull coil split for additional tonal range.
The fully hollow 5-ply Canadian flame maple body is the key specification that distinguishes the Viking II from the regular Viking, which has a center block. Fully hollow means more acoustic bloom, more resonance, and that particular open, airy quality that a hollowbody has and a semi-hollow cannot fully replicate. The 24.56" short scale keeps the playing feel light and comfortable, and at 6 lbs 11 oz the guitar wears effortlessly. The gold hardware, trapeze tailpiece, and pearloid block inlays give it that vintage 60s vibe from across the room.
