The 6120 is the guitar that put Gretsch on the map — introduced in 1954 as the Chet Atkins Hollow Body, it defined the Western cool of the Nashville sound and became one of the most influential electric guitar designs of the twentieth century. The Players Edition Nashville DS takes that legacy and builds it for the modern performing guitarist: a 16-inch hollow maple body with Gretsch's innovative ML bracing that delivers the full, open, resonant voice of a traditional hollow body while weighing in at a comfortable 2.5 inches deep, a String-Thru Bigsby B6GP vibrato that is simultaneously expressive and tuning-stable, Gotoh locking tuners, a rolled-edge ebony fingerboard with Luminlay side dots, and a host of player-focused refinements that make this guitar as dependable on a sweaty stage as it is inspiring in a quiet room. The DS designation confirms this model ships with DynaSonic single-coil pickups — the original Gretsch pickup design, bright and articulate and full of that distinctive Gretsch shimmer — and this example has been tastefully upgraded with a pair of TV Jones pickups that represent the gold standard of aftermarket Gretsch-voiced pickups. The TV Classic at the bridge delivers a warm, full, slightly compressed humbucker-ish character with exceptional note articulation and presence, while the T-Armond at the neck reinterprets the DeArmond-style single-coil voice with TV Jones's characteristic clarity and sustain. Together they give this guitar a tonal range and sophistication that goes considerably beyond what the stock pickups deliver, and the original DynaSonics are included in the case for the buyer who wants to restore or experiment with the factory configuration. A significant and well-considered upgrade on an already excellent platform.
This one is in superb shape — very minor buckle rash and minimal signs of play are the entire condition story. Set up and playing great. Includes the original hardshell case, original pickups, and strap locks. Case is missing one latch but functions just fine.
