Gretsch has been building guitars with a distinctive voice and visual personality since 1883, and the Broadkaster Jr. is one of the clearest expressions of what that means in the modern Electromatic lineup. The LTD Flame Okoume edition takes the Broadkaster Jr. formula and dresses it up with a laminated flame okoume body that is genuinely striking — the figure catches light beautifully and the Roundup Orange finish gives it a warm, amber glow that is unmistakably Gretsch in character. The chambered spruce center block is the engineering decision that defines how this guitar sounds and behaves. Unlike a fully hollow archtop, the center block controls feedback at stage volumes and tightens the low end response, while the surrounding hollow chambers preserve the warmth, air, and resonance that make a Gretsch a Gretsch. The result is an instrument that can handle a loud stage without fighting the player, while still delivering that open, chimey, three-dimensional voice in the neck position that solid-body guitars simply cannot replicate. The USA-made Full'Tron humbuckers designed by Tim Shaw are the heart of the tonal picture — full-spectrum and articulate, with a slightly pronounced mid concentration that gives them a snarl and presence that standard humbuckers lack. Master volume with treble bleed circuit, master tone, and individual pickup volume controls give you a wide range of tonal options without the controls getting in the way. The thin U-shaped okoume neck is fast and comfortable, the 12-inch radius rosewood fingerboard with pearloid Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays is smooth and well-dressed, and the Bigsby B70 vibrato is the right tailpiece choice for this guitar — expressive, musical, and period-correct. Locking die-cast tuners keep things in tune even with heavy Bigsby use. At 6 pounds 11 ounces it is a remarkably comfortable guitar to wear for a full set.
This example has been upgraded with a beautifully crafted bone nut — a meaningful improvement over the stock NuBone that improves sustain and open string tone in a way that players notice immediately. Condition is superb — like new throughout, no fret wear, only the most superficial signs of play. Comes with a hard case.
