The Dot is Epiphone's long-running tribute to the ES-335 format — a 335-inspired semi-hollow that has been one of the most consistently recommended guitars in its price range for decades, and for good reason. The laminated maple body with solid center block delivers the fundamental semi-hollow character that made the 335 famous: the warmth and acoustic resonance of a hollow body with the feedback resistance and focused low end of a solid body, giving you a genuinely versatile tonal platform that works across jazz, blues, rock, and everything in between. The maple neck with SlimTaper D profile is fast and comfortable, the rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays and 12-inch radius plays smoothly across all 22 medium jumbo frets, and the 24.75-inch scale gives the whole guitar the comfortable, slightly elastic string feel associated with the Gibson family of instruments. Epiphone Alnico Classic humbuckers in neck and bridge positions with individual volume and tone controls and three-way toggle switching give you the full range of humbucker tones from warm and round in the neck position to punchy and cutting at the bridge. Tune-o-Matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece keeps the setup stable and the intonation accurate. The 2003 Korean production era is well-regarded among Dot enthusiasts — these instruments were built with genuine quality control and have proven themselves as reliable players over the two decades since.
This one plays great and presents in superb shape. The Grover tuners are a welcome upgrade over the stock units. There is some minor hardware tarnishing consistent with age — nothing dramatic, just honest aging. No pickguard. The case is in great shape.
