The Silver Sky started as a Core USA instrument — the result of two years of close collaboration between Paul Reed Smith and John Mayer to build an idealized version of a vintage single-coil guitar. The SE brings that same design philosophy to a broader audience, and it does so without meaningful compromise where it counts. The same 635JM neck shape, the same inverted headstock, the same 25.5" scale and two-point steel tremolo — and a trio of 635JM "S" pickups voiced for the warm, round, musical single-coil tone that the original was built around. Glassy highs, full bottom end, never harsh. The SE delivers the Silver Sky experience at a fraction of the price, and this one plays exactly like it should.
One spec worth noting for buyers familiar with the Core model: the SE runs an 8.5" fingerboard radius rather than the original's 7.25". It is still a vintage-feeling profile, but slightly flatter — a small adjustment that injects a dose of modern playability without losing the character of the original. Most players find it comfortable immediately.
This guitar has been set up by our shop and is ready to rock. One upgrade from stock: the original tuners have been replaced with Grover deluxe vintage-style button tuners, which are a clean and practical improvement and keep the aesthetic consistent with the rest of the guitar. Condition is Very Good with signs of cosmetic use consistent with a played instrument. Check the photos for specifics. Comes with the PRS gig bag.
