Fender American Vintage "Thin Skin" '72 Telecaster Custom FSR- MN - Crimson Red Transparent - Used
This is a rare and highly sought-after Factory Special Run (FSR) "Thin Skin" '72 Telecaster Custom. Built to the exacting standards of the American Vintage series but with a few key player-centric upgrades, the "Thin Skin" models are famous for their 100% nitrocellulose lacquer finish with no thick poly base coat. This allows the wood to breathe and resonate more freely, and the Crimson Red Transparent finish beautifully showcases the grain of the ash body. This one has been fitted with an upgraded Gotoh Bridge with compensated saddles, and the original is included. This is our favorite traditional style tele bridge and provides a major playing upgrade while still retaining the classic sound of the original.
True to the 1972 specifications, this guitar features the iconic combination of a Fender Wide Range humbucker in the neck and a punchy Telecaster single-coil in the bridge. This specific run also features a modern 9.5 inch fretboard radius and 6105 frets, offering a significantly smoother playing experience than the vintage 7.25 inch radius. Whether you are chasing the classic grit of Keef-inspired rock or warm, jazzy cleans, this Telecaster Custom covers a massive amount of tonal ground.
This guitar is in excellent shape and has been professionally set up in our shop; it plays and sounds fantastic. As is common with the ultra-thin nitro finishes on these models, there are some finish chips present on the body—please see the photo series for a detailed look at these areas. Outside of these cosmetic chips, the guitar is exceptionally clean with minimal fret wear. It comes complete with the original G&G deluxe hardshell case, the Certificate of Authenticity (COA), and all the original case candy.
