The MH series is ESP's take on the modern high-performance superstrat — double cutaway, 24 frets, active pickups, Floyd Rose bridge — and the MH-350FM sits at a genuinely useful point in the lineup where the features and build quality start to feel like a professional instrument rather than a stepping stone. Neck-through maple construction is the specification that separates the 350 from the bolt-on models below it, and it makes itself known immediately: sustain that keeps going, seamless upper register access, and a resonance and consistency across the full range of the neck that bolt-on construction at this price simply cannot match. The flame maple top over mahogany body adds visual impact and a natural warmth that balances the aggression of the EMGs.
Those EMGs are the 81 and 85 — the standard-bearer active pickup pairing for high-gain playing for decades. The 81 at the bridge is tight, articulate, and precise at any gain level; the 85 at the neck is warmer and fuller, with the kind of singing lead tone that cleans up better than its reputation suggests. Together through the 3-way toggle they cover every corner of the high-gain spectrum and then some.
