Noble & Cooley is the oldest continuous drum maker in the United States. Silas Noble and James Cooley started building drums in 1854, beginning with toy drums, and the company is still family run out of Granville, Massachusetts. N&C introduced its SS Classic solid shell snares in 1983. This 13x6 wood shell drum has been verified by the manufacturer as an early to mid 1990s build, and the shell appears to be 6-ply maple. The compact diameter paired with a 6 inch depth makes it a handy choice for players who want a small drum with some body.
This one presents very well. It has a new Aquarian snare side head, a Puresound strainer and Canopus strainer straps. The Evans coated G1 batter head has been lightly played and has plenty of life left. The hoops are aftermarket brass plated hoops, and the factory tube lugs and throw-off are in place. The shell has a few light dings in the finish.
