Gon Bop has been building Latin percussion in Los Angeles since 1954 — one of the oldest continuously operating percussion companies in the United States. The Tumbao series sits in the middle of the Gon Bop lineup, built for working percussionists who need a serious instrument without the flagship price tag. The 11" conga is the mid-voice of the conga family — sitting between the quinto and the tumba in both pitch and size, producing the open tones, slaps, and muffled tones that define the instrument's role in Latin music. This one sounds beautiful — full, resonant, and musical across its full dynamic range.
The natural blonde clear coat finish shows the wood grain cleanly. The head is in great shape and the rim is near perfect — well cared for where it counts. The shell shows some finish blemishes from normal use consistent with a played instrument. A genuinely nice conga at an honest used price.
