Tito Puente — El Rey del Timbal — was the musician most responsible for bringing timbales from the back of the Latin band to the front, and his four-decade partnership with Latin Percussion produced one of the most enduring signature percussion instruments in the catalog. The LP Tito Puente timbales are built to his exact specifications: 14" and 15" shells, 6-1/2" deep, with a ribbed shell design that turns both top and bottom edges inward for a livelier, more cutting cascara — the sharp, bright sound produced by striking the side of the shell that defines the instrument's role in Latin music. The bronze shells produce a warm, rich, slightly darker tone than stainless steel with more complexity and depth in the sustain — a character that works beautifully across Latin jazz, salsa, and fusion contexts.
LP's build quality on the Tito Puente series is serious throughout — traditional tuning system, LP drumheads, and the kind of hardware fit and finish that holds up to heavy gigging. This set comes with the LP factory double-braced stand, which features a die-cast geared tilter that locks tight for straight or angled playing, a height adjustment mechanism with anti-rattle sleeve for positive non-slip positioning, and a welded steel cowbell bracket with LP's eyebolt assembly. The LP auxiliary percussion mount is included as well, expanding the setup options considerably for players who want to add cowbells, woodblocks, or other accessories to the rig.
