Jackson JS Series Spectra Bass JS2 – Red – Used Very Good Plus

Jackson built the Spectra Bass as an offset-body workhorse for players who want something with genuine personality and more tonal flexibility than a basic P or J bass — without spending a lot of money to get there. The poplar body with its distinctive large upper horn is designed to balance the instrument evenly on a strap, eliminating the neck dive that plagues so many basses in this price range and making it genuinely comfortable to play for a full set. At 8 pounds 2 ounces it sits in a comfortable middle ground — substantial enough to feel solid, light enough not to wear you out. The bolt-on maple neck has a speed contour profile that is fast and easy in the hand, and the satin finish on the back of the neck is one of those details that players notice immediately — smooth, unobtrusive, and considerably more comfortable than a gloss-finished neck. The laurel fingerboard runs a full 24 frets with a 12-inch radius that suits both low-position groove playing and higher-register work equally well. The P/J pickup configuration is where this bass earns its keep tonally — the P-style neck pickup delivers the warm, authoritative thump that has driven records for seventy years, while the J-style bridge pickup adds snap, clarity, and cut. Run them together and you get a full, balanced voice that covers a wide range of styles. The push-pull volume control switches between active and passive modes, and the active bass boost adds serious low-end weight when you need it.

This is exactly the kind of bass that is perfect for a player who wants a solid, no-nonsense instrument without spending a lot — something that looks sharp, plays comfortably, and sounds genuinely good without a lot of fuss. The red finish is striking and the satin neck feels great. Action is within spec, no noticeable fret wear, nut and saddle all original. There is some minor pitting on the back of the neck around frets 8 through 10 that appears to have originated at the factory rather than from play — shown clearly in the photos and noted here for full transparency. Otherwise this bass is in very nice shape throughout.
