The formula here is straightforward and well-executed: an ash body with a quilted sapele top, a graphite-reinforced maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and two-way truss rod, and a component package that punches well above what you would expect from a custom instrument at this price point. The Nordstrand BigSplit pickups are a serious choice — wide-aperture split-coil humbuckers that cancel hum while preserving the clarity and note definition that single-coil pickups are known for, with a full, focused low end and articulate high-mids that sit beautifully in a mix. The Aguilar OBP-1 preamp is one of the most respected two-band active EQ systems in bass building — musical and transparent, with a treble boost/cut centered at 6.5kHz and a bass boost/cut centered at 40Hz that add and subtract frequency content in a way that sounds natural rather than processed. Volume, blend, passive tone, treble, and bass controls give you a complete tonal toolkit. The 34-inch scale length, graphite reinforcement in the neck, and two-way truss rod add up to a bass that is stable, reliable, and built for long-term service.
