G&L L-1000 "Wunkay" Bass - Natural - Used
This is a uniquely modified and highly versatile G&L L-1000 from the early Leo Fender era, finished in a classic Natural with a deep vintage tint. This "Wunkay" has been expanded into a custom powerhouse with the addition of a G&L Jazz-style pickup in the bridge position, offering a wider tonal palette than a standard single-humbucker model. The bass features beautiful finish checking throughout, giving it a legitimate vintage character and a played-in, vibey aesthetic.
The electronics have been customized to handle the expanded pickup configuration. The red toggle switch functions as a neck humbucker mode selector, while the second 3-way toggle located near the jack acts as a pickup selector (Neck/Both/Bridge). The control layout consists of a master volume and two tone knobs, allowing for deep sculpting of the bass's rich, aggressive voice.
In terms of playability, the neck has a comfortable, substantial feel characteristic of early G&L instruments. The action is clear and comfortable across the majority of the fingerboard; while not as hyper-low as a modern precision instrument, it is very good for a vintage bass. Please note there is some fret buzz on the highest frets, though it remains a highly musical and reliable performer. It comes paired with a Fender gig bag for transport.
