Carvin PB4 P-Style Bass – Lake Placid Blue – Original Gig Bag – Used Excellent
Carvin built the PB4 as their answer to the classic American P-bass — same DNA, same split-coil simplicity, but with the fit and finish that Carvin's San Diego shop was known for delivering at a price that undercut the competition by a wide margin. These were custom-order instruments built to spec, not mass-produced, and the craftsmanship reflects that. The bolt-on maple neck is finished in satin — fast, comfortable, and completely unobtrusive — and sits on an alder body that gives you that warm, full P-bass thump without any of the weight you'd get from a heavier wood choice. The rosewood fingerboard is smooth and well-dressed, and the fretwork is clean across the full length of the neck. Carvin's quality control was genuinely excellent during this era, and this bass is a strong example of what they were capable of.
The color combination on this one is exceptional. The body is finished in a deep, lustrous blue that sits right in Lake Placid territory — rich and slightly metallic without being flashy. Against that, the tortoise pickguard and cream P pickup look absolutely right, a classic pairing that's hard to argue with. The whole instrument has a cohesion to it that you don't always get when these elements come together.
This one is in excellent condition — no wear, no dings, no buckle rash. It looks and plays like an instrument that was taken care of from day one. Comes with the original Carvin gig bag.
