The Carvin X100B was a true workhorse of the 1980s arena circuit, the head behind tones from artists like Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, and Warrant. Zappa famously raved about the clean channel, and Vai recorded "Blue Powder" on his debut solo release using one. This all-tube head runs three clean, crunch, and lead voicings with a shared EQ section, presence and master reverb controls, and a 5-band graphic EQ that can be assigned to either channel, plus an onboard effects loop for added flexibility.
All three channels are working, and the graphic EQ sounds excellent. A few of the push/pull knobs are a bit sticky and need some finagaling to get sound through consistently — worth knowing going in. Cosmetically, this one's in good shape overall: the tolex shows some honest signs of wear, the faceplate is solid, and the back chassis has some surface dust but no damage. Per the seller, it was being run through an Ampeg cabinet and sounded great — a great option for players chasing that classic '80s arena tone with plenty of tonal range on tap.
