Peavey 1973 Classic 2x12 Tweed - Used
Long before Peavey's EL84-powered Classic Series became a fixture of the boutique tweed revival in the '90s, the original Classic was already earning its keep on stages across the country. Built in 1973, this early aluminum-trimmed Classic 2x12 runs a pair of 6L6 power tubes with spring reverb and tremolo built in — amps from this era of Peavey's lineup spent the '70s on the Grand Ol' Opry stage and in Lynyrd Skynyrd's backline, and they've earned a reputation among players who know vintage Peavey as legitimate sleepers: underrated, overbuilt, and full of their own kind of mojo. This one's a great example of why.
Everything on this amp functions as it should — both reverb and tremolo are working, and it powers up and holds steady with no hum or hiss to report. The original power cord has been replaced with a modern three-prong cord for safe and proper grounding; this is the only deviation from original spec. Cosmetically, the tweed shows some light fraying around the edges, the kind of honest, era-appropriate wear you'd expect from a 50-year-old amp that's clearly been used and loved rather than babied — nothing that takes away from how it looks or plays. Tonally, this one sounds great, with the kind of natural breakup and warmth that's made these early Classics a favorite among players chasing vintage American tube tone without the vintage Fender price tag. A great option for anyone wanting real 6L6 tweed tone with built-in reverb and tremolo.
