The original tweed Deluxe occupies a near-mythical place in amplifier history — Fender's 5E3 circuit from the late 1950s has been studied, cloned, and chased by builders and players for decades, and the '57 Custom Deluxe is Fender's own faithful, hand-wired reissue of that legendary design. Twelve watts of all-tube power flow through a pair of 6V6 power tubes and a 5Y3 rectifier tube, with a 12AY7 and 12AX7 handling preamp duties — the exact same recipe that gave the original its touch-sensitive dynamics and early, musical onset of breakup. A newly designed 12-inch Eminence Special Design speaker with an alnico magnet delivers warm lows and clear, never-shrill top end, while custom-made yellow coupling capacitors add the airy harmonic richness that defines authentic vintage Fender tone. This is a genuinely interactive amp — roll back your guitar's volume and you get glassy, chimey clean tone; dig in and push the volume knob past noon and it opens up into rich, creamy overdrive that has inspired more boutique amp clones than perhaps any other circuit in history. At just 26 pounds it remains easy to transport despite its substantial vintage-style cabinet, and the finger-joined solid pine construction, lacquered tweed covering, Bassman-style grille cloth, and vintage leather strap handle make it as visually authentic as it sounds.
