Fender 1967 Deluxe Reverb, Black Panel, AB763 - Used
There are amplifiers and then there is the black panel Fender Deluxe Reverb. It is not hyperbole to call it the platonic ideal of a Fender amp sounnd. The AB763 circuit that defines this amp was the end point of Leo Fender's refinement of the Deluxe format before CBS acquired the company in 1965, and the 1967 examples represent some of the last black panel production before Fender transitioned to the silver panel in 1968. Twenty-two watts from a pair of 6V6GT power tubes through an original Oxford 12" speaker, with a GZ34 rectifier that contributes the characteristic sag and compression that solid-state rectified amps cannot approximate. Two channels — Normal and Vibrato — with full spring reverb and tremolo on the Vibrato channel. All the clean sparkle and spank you could ask for, and the reverb and tremolo sound perfect.
This one has a provenance worth understanding. It was sitting untouched in a garage for decades — not gigged, not modified, not opened up by someone who did not know what they were doing. It came to us with the original RCA tubes intact, the original Oxford speaker in place, the original footswitch still with it. We cleaned the dirt off the exterior, cleaned the pots, and had our technician install a 3-prong grounded plug for safety — the only modification made. The tolex is clean and intact. The grille cloth is original and tight. The tube chart and faceplate are as you would expect from a well-stored example. Chassis Serial number A 23531 confirms 1967 production from the Fullerton, California factory.
