The Debut 50R is Blackstar's step-up solid-state combo for players ready to move beyond a bedroom practice amp — and it punches well above its price point. At the heart of it is a discrete MOSFET preamp voiced by Blackstar's Northampton-based design team specifically to replicate the overdrive characteristics of a valve amp, with the clean channel modeled after the HT-20R MkII and the overdrive channel voiced around the St. James 6L6. Two footswitchable channels, Blackstar's patented ISF tone control for dialing between American and British EQ characters, plate and hall reverb modes, switchable 50/5 watt power reduction, a series effects loop, 3.5mm line input, and an emulated speaker output for silent practice and direct recording — a solid feature set for the money, all in an all-analog design. A capable pedal platform and a legitimate first gig amp.
