Recording King ROS-G9M EZ Tone Select – Natural – Used Very Good
Recording King has built a quietly devoted following among players who care more about tone than brand names, and the ROS-G9M is a strong argument for why. It is a 12-fret 000 — a body size and neck join combination with deep roots in pre-war American acoustic guitar building, where the bridge sits closer to the center of the top for maximum resonance and the shorter neck-to-body ratio gives the instrument a warmer, more midrange-forward character than a 14-fret instrument of the same size. The all-solid construction is the key spec here — solid Sitka spruce top over solid mahogany back and sides, which is not a given at this price point and makes an enormous difference in how the guitar opens up and responds over time. Recording King's EZ Tone finish is one of the thinnest poly applications in production acoustic guitar building, chosen specifically to let the wood vibrate as freely as possible rather than dampening it under layers of finish. The mahogany neck has a comfortable thin profile, the rosewood fingerboard is smooth and well-dressed, and the classic teardrop pickguard gives the whole instrument a period-appropriate look that suits the vintage-inspired design.
This one plays really well and sounds genuinely impressive for its size and price — warm and rich throughout, with a notably full and satisfying bass response that you don't always expect from a smaller body instrument. Minimal fret wear. There is one repaired crack running from the bridge to the tail near the low E string — professionally done and presenting no issues whatsoever. One nick on the back edge and superficial signs of play otherwise. A superb little guitar at a real-world price.
