This 1920 Martin 00-21 (Serial #14861) is a featherweight piece of guitar history that feels like holding air, weighing in at an incredible 2 lbs 12 oz. Even in its current unrestored state, it is a sweet-sounding instrument that hints at the magical tone that only a 100-year-old Red spruce and Brazilian rosewood Martin can produce. If ever there was a vintage guitar that warranted a high-level restoration to bring it back to its full glory, this is the one.
**Please Note: This guitar is being sold AS-IS.** It is currently in Fair condition; while somewhat stable and technically playable, the action is high (sitting around 11-12/64" are 12th fret with 1st fret depressed) and it will require extensive professional work to be shored up and made easy to play. It has seen significant work over the last century, including numerous glued cracks on all sides of the soundbox and a long wood patch on the soundboard extending from the treble side of the bridge to the butt block. The finish is largely original but with clear evidence of touch-ups and overspray, primarily over repaired areas.
A rudimentary assessment indicates that at least one top brace and one back brace will need reglueing. Crucially, the one job that has not yet been performed—the one needed to get it back to playing form—is a neck reset. The tuners have been changed. This listing includes two cases: the original hard case for posterity, and a newer hardshell case in which the guitar will ship for safety.
