The Dove holds a singular place in Gibson's catalog — introduced at the Kalamazoo factory in 1962, it quickly became one of the first acoustic guitars to earn genuine rock and roll icon status, and that visual and tonal legacy carries through directly into the Epiphone Dove Pro. The square-shoulder dreadnought body pairs a solid spruce top with select maple back and sides, giving the instrument a brighter, punchier character than a typical spruce-and-mahogany dreadnought — a voice that cuts cleanly through a mix and holds its own next to drums and electric instruments. The hard maple neck in SlimTaper D profile is glued in with a traditional dovetail joint, and the fingerboard with pearloid parallelogram inlays and the bridge with matching pearloid dove inlays are unmistakably Dove in their visual signature. The hand-painted tortoise shell pickguard with the classic dove and flowers artwork remains one of the most recognizable details in the acoustic guitar world, and the 5-ply white and black top binding gives the whole instrument a dressy, finished look. The Fishman Sonitone preamp and Sonicore under-saddle pickup are a smart electronics choice for this guitar — discreet soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls, a genuinely acoustic amplified voice, and roughly 100 hours of battery life on a single 9-volt.
