Jay Turser built the JTA-DS as the flagship of their Premier Series acoustic line, and it shows in every detail. This is not a standard dreadnought — the body is slightly smaller, with a narrower waist and rounder shoulders that put it closer to a 000 or OM footprint than a full dreadnought. The result is a guitar that is comfortable in the lap, easy to hold, and surprisingly resonant for its size. The solid spruce top over flamed maple back and sides delivers a bright, clear voice with excellent projection — the kind of guitar that fills a room and rewards fingerstyle and flatpicking equally. Elongated Martin-style X bracing is underneath it all, which goes a long way toward explaining the tone.
The aesthetics on this guitar are genuinely exceptional at any price point: vine of life fingerboard inlay running the full length of the rosewood board, abalone rosette around the soundhole, mosaic center strip down the back, bound headstock, and a high-gloss natural finish that shows the flamed maple beautifully. It is one of the most visually striking instruments in its class and was widely praised for exactly that when it was in production. A discontinued model that has developed a quiet following among players who stumbled on one and could not put it down.
