Gibson J-50 ADJ 1965-1968 Acoustic Guitar - Used
This Gibson J-50 ADJ, dating from the mid-to-late 1960s, is a truly exceptional example of a vintage slope-shoulder dreadnought. While many guitars from this era struggle with structural fatigue, this particular instrument is in great shape with a remarkably flat top and an excellent neck angle. It features the classic natural finish that has aged beautifully, showing characteristic finish checking and minor wear that gives it an authentic vintage character without any major dings or previous cracks.
The guitar is structurally excellent. We have just completed a professional bridge plate repair in our shop using countersunk maple plugs. This common vintage maintenance addresses the typical string-ball wear found in older bridge plates, ensuring the long-term integrity of the plate and providing a solid anchor for the strings for decades to come. The adjustable bridge—a hallmark of this era—is in great working order, allowing for easy action tweaks to suit your playing style.
In terms of playability, this J-50 is a standout. The neck is straight and comfortable, and while there is a bit of light fret wear on the first few frets, it does not impact playability or cause any buzzing. It delivers that signature dry, woody Gibson thump with plenty of midrange punch and clarity.
