Taylor Builder's Edition 324ce – Shaded Edgeburst – Urban Ash – Includes Original Hardshell Case – Used Very Good
Taylor launched the Builder's Edition series as an opportunity to push the Grand Auditorium platform further than the standard lineup allows — incorporating ergonomic refinements, premium materials, and construction details that reflect what Andy Powers and the El Cajon team genuinely want to build when constraints are loosened. The 324ce BE is the all-mahogany expression of that thinking, and it is one of the most distinctive and player-focused instruments in the Taylor catalog. The solid neo-tropical mahogany top is the tonal foundation — warm, naturally compressed, and focused in the midrange in a way that spruce-topped guitars simply cannot be, with a directness and immediacy that suits both fingerpicking and strumming with equal conviction. Urban Ash back and sides complete the all-hardwood equation — responsibly sourced from municipal trees in Southern California, tonally comparable to high-grade Honduran mahogany, warm and fundamental-forward with minimal overtone complexity. The combination produces a voice that is bold, woody, and beautifully balanced — powerful without being boomy, warm without losing definition. V-Class bracing extracts maximum sustain and volume from that tonewood pairing while delivering the exceptional across-the-board intonation that has made V-Class one of the most significant developments in acoustic guitar building in generations. The Builder's Edition comfort package is comprehensive — beveled armrest on the bass side, beveled cutaway, chamfered body and fingerboard edges, and Silent Satin finish throughout that reduces incidental noise and feels genuinely natural under the hand. The West African Crelicam ebony fingerboard and bridge show some beautiful light figure — an unusual and striking natural characteristic that makes this particular example visually distinctive. The Urban Ash back and sides carry similar light figuring that adds another layer of visual interest to an already handsome instrument. Compass Italian acrylic inlays, Gotoh tuners, ebony bridge pins, and ES2 electronics round out the specification.
This one plays great — action set a touch below spec but it feels fantastic and is shredding, so we left it there. Very minor fret wear in first position and some dings along the bottom edge on the treble side top and side, all shown in the photos. Nothing structural, nothing dramatic. Set up and ready to go. Our Taylor-certified technicians have given it a clean bill of health.
