Emerald Guitars was founded on the west coast of Ireland by Alistair Hay, a designer whose background in Formula One power boat racing gave him a deep appreciation for what carbon fiber can do when applied to structures that need to be simultaneously lightweight, rigid, and resonant. The X10 is the distillation of that thinking into a performance-focused acoustic-electric guitar, and it represents a genuinely different philosophy from anything built out of wood. The entire instrument — body, neck, fretboard, bridge — is constructed from carbon fiber using Emerald's proprietary one-piece moulding process, which eliminates all the joints, seams, and glue points that can introduce inconsistency in a traditional acoustic guitar. The result is a structure that is extraordinarily stable across temperature and humidity extremes, impervious to the climate anxieties that plague touring musicians with wood instruments, and consistently identical in playability whether you pull it out of a cold car on a January night or walk onstage in a humid summer festival tent. The offset soundhole projects sound more directly toward the player while maintaining strong forward projection, and the ergonomic body design with asymmetric side profile, rib bevel, and forearm bevel makes this one of the most genuinely comfortable acoustic-electrics to play for extended periods. Every X10 goes through the Plek process — a precision CNC fret leveling system that scans and machines the frets to perfection accounting for radius, relief, action, and string gauge. The 22 medium stainless steel frets on a 12-14 inch compound radius carbon fiber fretboard deliver a playing experience that is fast, smooth, and consistent from the first fret to the last. Gotoh 510 tuners at 18:1 ratio handle tuning stability with the precision the rest of the instrument demands. The electronics package is where the X10 becomes genuinely versatile — individual Graphtech Ghost piezo saddles under each string feed a natural, transparent acoustic signal, while a Krivo magnetic neck pickup delivers an electric voice from the same instrument. The optional Hexpander MIDI connection opens up the full world of guitar synthesis and modeling. Run acoustic, run electric, blend them, or go MIDI — this guitar does all of it from a single instrument that weighs 4 pounds.
This example was built in May 2022 — serial T515-22 — and is in superb shape. Minuscule fret wear and minor signs of play are the entire condition story. It looks nearly new and plays great throughout. Comes with the original Hiscox hard case.
