Gibson L-5 1949 with Original Hard Case - Used
The 1949 Gibson L-5 represents the pinnacle of golden-era archtop design. As Gibson's flagship orchestral guitar, the L-5 is renowned for its 17-inch carved spruce top and highly figured maple back and sides, delivering a sophisticated, punchy, and woody acoustic voice. This late 1940s example features the classic non-cutaway body style, which many jazz purists prefer for its superior resonance and acoustic volume.
This instrument is in fantastic playing shape and has been expertly maintained for the modern player. It has been professionally refretted, providing a smooth and effortless playing experience that original wire often lacks. To ensure maximum stability and intonation, the guitar has also been fitted with a high-quality replacement bridge and modern tuners that hold pitch reliably while maintaining the vintage aesthetic.
Structurally, the guitar is in really great condition. There is a small side crack that has been stable for many years and does not affect the integrity of the instrument. Beyond the updated hardware and frets, there are no major repairs or structural issues to report. The nitrocellulose finish shows a beautiful, natural weather checking and honest play wear that only comes with a well-loved instrument of this vintage. Missing truss rod cover.
