The Alvarez Artist Elite series represents the company's top tier of production acoustics — solid tonewoods, premium appointments throughout, and a level of construction care that earns the "Elite" designation honestly. The AED90ce Armrest is the dreadnought entry in that series, and it is built around a combination of tonewoods that delivers a specifically compelling tonal character: a solid AA North American Sitka spruce top over Macassar ebony back and sides. Macassar ebony is a dense, heavy wood with a striking grain pattern and a tonal signature that sits between rosewood and ebony — authoritative in the low end, clear and defined in the trebles, with excellent note separation and projection. The forward-shifted FS6 bracing pattern expands the effective soundboard area for increased response and volume, and the thin gloss finish over all of it is applied deliberately light to let the wood vibrate freely rather than dampen it.
The beveled Macassar ebony armrest on the treble side of the body is the practical detail that players who spend serious time with this guitar come to appreciate most. It removes the hard edge of the dreadnought body that fatigues the strumming arm over long sessions, and it gives the guitar a genuinely premium, custom-shop feel in the hand. The Venetian cutaway opens up the full upper register, and the LR Baggs StagePro Bronze — a side-mounted preamp incorporating the LR Baggs Element undersaddle pickup — is one of the most respected acoustic-electric systems available, with volume, bass, treble, phase, and a large backlit tuner in a low-profile package.
