Italia Guitars was founded by world-renowned guitar designer Trev Wilkinson with a single animating idea — build instruments that look and feel like the most outrageous, design-forward guitars of the 1960s while delivering modern build quality and playability. The Rimini 12-String is one of the clearest expressions of that philosophy. The semi-hollow chambered body in alder and ash draws clear visual inspiration from the Rickenbacker 300 series but with Italia's own art deco styling cues — a headstock that sits somewhere between a 1960s Silvertone and a classical guitar, a control plate lifted straight from the 1950s, and an overall aesthetic that demands to be picked up and played. The chambered alder and ash construction gives the instrument a resonance and airiness that a solid body 12-string cannot replicate, contributing to a tone that is rich and warm rather than bright and jangly — which means this guitar holds up beautifully under overdrive and fuzz in a way that most electric 12-strings do not. The two Wilkinson WMH mini humbuckers are the right pickup choice for this application — clear and articulate with a warmth that flatters the 12-string format without getting harsh in the high frequencies. The control layout is deliberately unconventional — no pickup selector, just individual volume controls per pickup and a master tone on a vintage-style control plate. It forces you out of the usual switching habits and into blending the pickups in a way that reveals the full tonal range of the instrument. The set hard maple neck with rosewood fingerboard is comfortable and fast, the Tune-o-matic bridge with Italia trapeze tailpiece keeps intonation stable, and the Wilkinson EZ-Lock tuners handle the considerable challenge of keeping twelve strings in tune with genuine reliability. This one is in superb shape — all original, minor signs of handling but very little to see. Electronics fully functioning throughout. A genuinely distinctive instrument for a player who wants something that sounds and looks unlike anything else on the stage.
