The solid A+ Sitka spruce top has been further enhanced through Alvarez’s Advanced Tonal Response torrefaction process — a heat treatment that accelerates the aging and drying of the wood, producing a top that responds with greater openness, resonance, and tonal maturity than untreated spruce at the same age. African mahogany back and sides add warmth and a dry, focused midrange that complements the lower register beautifully, and the Venetian cutaway gives comfortable access to the upper frets where baritone voicings and single-note lines can really open up. The Alvarez bi-level Indian laurel bridge is a clever engineering detail — the raised platform at the rear of the bridge increases downward string pressure on the saddle for better energy transfer and more volume from the top. LR Baggs Element electronics are the right choice for a baritone — transparent, natural, and capable of handling the extended low-end response without muddying the signal. Gloss top with semi-gloss back and sides, ABS binding, 12th fret MOP Alvarez inlay, and 15:1 tuners round out a well-considered instrument.
